Summer

This is a poem I wrote a long time ago about my imaginings of a dream holiday … it’s not specifically about Summer, but it is about a holiday that would be in the Summer, and I hope it conjures up the feeling of Summer holidays.

Dream Holiday

Laying on the grass in the sun.
Relaxed
Warm
Comfortable
Knowing that my children are nearby
Safe
Happy
Not needing me
Able to shut my eyes and enjoy the moment
See the red of my eyelids
Contemplate clouds
Make daisy chains
Knowing there’s nothing I should be doing
Or ought to be doing
Or will have to do later

Smell the new mown grass
Hear the happy cries of children
Nod approvingly at special things found
Beautiful stone
Lovely leaf
Wonderful drawing
But know I’m not responsible
For food
For drinks
For entertainment
All I have to do is relax

Glowing happy faces
Full of tales of things done
Exhausted from fun
Laughter at bath time
Long snuggly cuddles
Sweet smelling hair under my lips
Sleeping soundly like angels
All I have to do is relax

Quiet times
Warm evenings
Delicious food
Not mine
Sit back
Lean on my partner
Be comfortable together
Watch the sun set
Sleep with the window open
Awake to the sound of the birds
All I have to do is relax
